The Method

Entspannt Structural Integration was developed by Dr. Ida Rolf, who realised that the body, and its elasticity, can be in put in equilibrium - and that this would also lead to mental development.

ecause of her theoretical and practical work, Ida Rolf realised the great importance of the fascia (connective tissue). Fascia is elastic, stable, and shapable. It is responsible for a large part of the outward shape of our bodies. For example, the elastic fascia that surrounds the muscles is denser and firmer where it is connected to the bones as tendons. Fascia is the body's packaging material, it forms an organized elastic net that begins directly under the skin and surrounds the various elements of the body, such as muscles, bones, nerves and organs, in layers, holding them in position. Ida Rolf called it the "organ of structure". Its qualities of elasticity and plasticity (the ability to retain its shape and yet still be shapable) enable physical changes to occur.

Winni In reaction to negative physical changes and stress, the fascial tissue can change in such a way that economy of movement ceases to be possible: We use too much energy for the simplest actions - and this robs us of creative energy. This process can be reversed with the help of Structural Integration. The primary goal is to balance tissue tone, putting the various layers of tissue in equilibrium.
